Frankincense, Essential Oil

Typically sourced from the resin of the Boswellia carterii or Boswellia sacra tree.

Frankincense is a holy oil in the Middle East, and has been part of religious ceremonies for thousands of years.

In 3000 B.C., frankincense was valued more than gold.  It was sometimes referred to as "liquid gold".  Even today, the rarity of frankincense makes it one of the most expensive essential oils.

Much of the world's frankincense comes from the gum resin tears extracted from trees in Oman, India, Somalia, Yemen and other areas of North Africa, which is then steam distilled into oil.

It's nearly impossible to list all of the benefits linked to this potent essential oil.  Science is just beginning to understand some of its more prominent benefits.

Modern uses include muscle relaxation, immune support, uplifting of mood and heightening awareness, and its general support of body systems.  Frankincense oil can be used topically, internally, and diffused into the environment.

Frankincense oil can be used very effectively to support a healthy response to the stresses of life, promoting a sense of calm.  It has a relaxing effect on the body, and is very uplifting to the mood and sense of awareness.  Its mood lifting properties can be applied aromatically, either through diffusion or direct inhaliation or through topical application, including various forms of massage.

Frankincense is also beneficial for various skin conditions, as well as to reduce wrinkles or scarring from cuts and wounds.  It is mild enough to be applied without dilution, in most instances.  The most practical way to use frankincense, for skin care applications, is to dilute it down to 1% - 2% in a carrier or cream before using.

Frankincense is also a powerful immune enhancer.  It is great for use during the cold and flu season.
